Mindfulness Meditation Offerings

CAPS offers an array of mindfulness meditation options for students. Below are the current offerings:

 West Campus Office (Main office)

2nd Floor of the Student Health Center

Introductory Mindfulness Meditation Group

Mindfulness Meditation is the practice of focusing your mind on the present moment and non-judgmentally. This 1-session introductory course offers a brief taste of mindfulness meditation and is a good place to start if you are new to MM.  Participants will experience and get acquainted with MM through guided practices. Participants can come once, or every week!

Registration is not required for this group

A Taste of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)

1 Session

 MSC combines the skills of Mindfulness and Compassion to promote emotional well-bring and resilience.  Research has demonstrated that MSC reduces anxiety, depression and stress and improves satisfaction and happiness.  MSC can be learned by everyone.  Come and experience a taste of MSC, and see what it can offer to you

Mindful Self Compassion for Yourself and Others 101 (MSC)

6 Sessions

 MSC has been empirically shown to improve satisfaction and happiness while decreasing stress, anxiety and depression.  Mindfulness and Compassion skills are taught, and participants mindfully learn how to recognize their difficult thoughts and feelings and better respond to them with kindness, understanding, self-soothing and self-comfort.  In this group, you will learn to: stop being so hard on yourself; handle difficult emotions with greater ease; and motivate yourself with encouragement instead of criticism.

From Stressing to Studying Workshop 

1 session

This is an educational and experiential workshop aimed at helping individuals move past academic distraction. This workshop will provide participants with skills to better cope with academic stress. Come and learn how to manage distracting thoughts without judgement. 

Registration is not required for this group.

Wednesday

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

4 Sessions

 MBCT is an innovative and powerful psycho-educational group for individuals who have struggled with depression and chronic unhappiness and who are currently feeling better. Participants will learn how to recognize early symptoms of depression, how to interpret a depressive cycle and how to identify skills to promote continued health and well-being.

Pre-registration and initial orientation meeting are required for this group
