
The Center for Prevention & Outreach Health Education Office offers three opportunities for an Undergraduate student to be a Peer Educator:
- Swallow This - Prevention Through the Arts
- CHOICE - Choosing Healthy Options in the College Environment
- Chill - Mental Health and Wellness
The CHOICE and CHILL programs are full-year, two-semester, three-credit internship. Each year approximately 15 students are trained to present educational programs on different health topics listed below.

Students dramatically portray the real-life alcohol and other drug related experiences of SBU students as a way of educating on the consequences of substance misuse, abuse and dependence.

CHOICE - Choosing Healthy Options in the College Environment

Focus of study and outreach physical health and wellness directly linked to college experience . Topics of study, outreach and research linked to Choosing Healthy Options In the College Environment, including program planning, group dynamics, public speaking, effective outreach methods, alcohol and substance use/abuse, safer sex, bystander intervention, cancer risk behaviors, nutrition.

Chill - Mental Health and Wellness

This program is sponsored by the CPO Health Education Office and the University Counseling Center and covers mental health topics such as Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Management and etc.
