SEXUAL ASSAULT - PREVENTION TIPS
  • Be assertive & communicate your limits clearly. Yell for help! (Yelling FIRE! will also attract attention.)
  • Trust your instincts. If a situation feels uncomfortable for you, there is probably a good reason.
  • Avoid using alcohol/drugs — Benefits: The ability to make wise decisions and safe choices.
  • Do not leave your drink unattended or accept a drink from an open container.
  • Be aware of how much you drink, so you can respect what other people do and do not want.
  • Be alert of your surroundings and the people around you - know who's around and what's going on.
  • When at social events, be sure to look out for your friends and who they interact with.
  • If you see something suspicious, notify the local authorities.
  • Don't walk alone at night. Be cautious of isolated & poorly lit spots
  • Tell your roommate/suitemate where you're going & with whom — Establish a "worry time" and who to contact when you're not home at that time.
  • If meeting someone for the first time: Meet in a public, well lit place.
  • Make arrangements for transportation before going out. (Hint: Always bring extra $ in case you need a cab!)
  • Avoid being alone with an unfamiliar person, especially when alcohol is involved. If you are alone, make sure that your friends know where you are and how long you will be gone.
  • If you feel you are being followed, remain calm and get to a well lit and populated area ASAP.
  • Program the Police contact numbers in your phone for easy & quick access!
