Student Awards

This year there are three awards available to students:

It is with pleasure that we announce that the Sylvia Fund has sponsored two new $500 awards in memory of our own Sylvia Geoghegan.

Sylvia was a Stony Brook Alumni, a talented artist and someone who utilized all her abilities to enrich her life and the lives of others. To qualify for the Sylvia Award a student with a disability must be in good academic standing (2.0) Students who have completed at least two semesters at Stony Brook, sophomores through graduates may apply. One award will be given for students with specific artistic interest or promise and second for students with other interests. Please note Sylvia Award money is paid 7/15. 

Continuing a DSS tradition, we offer the $500 Michael Flynn Award, presented to a senior Stony Brook Student with a disability, at least two semesters at Stony Brook and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

To apply please complete the following and submit it with a 100-200 word essay that expresses your commitment to Stony Brook and highlights the reasons why the committee should select you as the recipient of that particular award. Please be sure to note which award/awards you are applying for. Applications must be submitted on or by May 1.
