Safety & Security

Police car in front of SAC

The SAC & Union is a place that hosts many events for student clubs and other organizations. Besides providing a place for events to happen there are also other services such as student lounges, post office, art galleries, café, and much more. With all these services we provide, there will be many people coming into the SAC & Union such as students, facility members and guests. This page is meant for the safety of people entering the SAC & Union. We are proud to say that we work with the University Police, Emergency Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Fire Marshals, Campus Residents, and Communications to keep our venues safe and secure.

Fire Safety
As we all know fires can be very dangerous and deadly. That's why it is important to educate everybody about fire protection. Stony Brook University has dedicated September as our school's Campus Fire Safety Month. Visit Campus Fire Safety for a schedule of events and more information.
No matter where you live it is always important to know the safety tips of fire prevention. Here are a list of helpful links.

All links can be found on the Environmental Health & Safety website and the Emergency Management website. Propped Door

Propped Doors
Propping doors is a very serious and dangerous issue in Stony Brook University. Please do not prop any doors open especially in residence halls. Propped doors can lead to unauthorized people entering into the buildings. This can lead to problems such as stealing and disruptive behaviors. We want to prevent any unauthorized people from entering the building for your safety. Again, for your safety please do not prop doors open.
