Orientation
When is Undergraduate Orientation?
All new undergraduate students participate in required orientation programs. International student orientation occurs in two parts:
- International Student Orientation. This includes your international student issues such as VISA documentation and immigration paperwork, as well as registration and advising. Information on student services is also included. You will have an opportunity to meet other new international undergraduate students during this orientation.
- Experience Stony Brook. This program introduces all students to the programs, policies, and procedures at the University. You will have an opportunity to meet other new undergraduate students during this orientation. All undergraduate students, not only international students, are required to participate in this program.
Are both programs required?
Yes. Students are required to attend both the complete International Student Orientation program as well as the Experience Stony Brook program.
What is the schedule for Orientation?
The schedule for the next orientation session is not yet available.
There will also be a Blackboard site established to provide you with more information online. You will be sent an email when the Blackboard site is up, which will tell you how to access the information online.
How do I prepare for Orientation?
Please see other important sections of this website including Transfer Student Advising and Registration and Undergraduate Colleges (First-Year Student) Advising and Registration for information on how to prepare for orientation.
What is the orientation fee and what does it cover?
All new undergraduate students pay a $180 orientation fee. This fee covers the staff and materials for your advising and registration day, as well as Experience Stony Brook. International students also pay a $50 international student orientation fee to offset the cost of International Student Orientation. Finally, resident students will pay a Resident Student meal fee. This covers the cost of the dining facilities opening early to accommodate new resident students.
