Student Activities
The Student Leader of the Month Award is designed to recognize student leaders who have made Stony Brook University a better place. Each month, a student leader will be recognized who has made significant contributions to the Stony Brook community at large.
The real tribute of this award is the nomination. The student leader that is chosen each month will receive a certificate of appreciation and their name will be placed on a plaque in the Dean of Students Office.
Student Leader of the Month Awards nominations are due by the 15th of every month for the previous month. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact Alexandra Duggan, Director of Student Activities, at 632-7320 or by e-mail at alduggan@notes.cc.sunysb.edu. Please send all of your nominations by email only!
The following criteria will be used in the decision-making process:
- Providing valuable and/or unique contributions made by the individual for a special event
- Providing motivation or encouraging leadership development in a special way
- Demonstrating leadership behaviors (examples are high levels of motivation, respect for others, acceptance of responsibilities and encouraging leadership development among other members or members within their organization)
- Providing significant research in a specialized area
- Good academic standing (GPA of 2.50 or higher)
- The student cannot be an employee in your office. They cannot be paid for their services. This has to be a volunteer basis.
