Staff
Thank you for your interest in Multicultural Affairs! I think I have one of the best careers at Stony Brook. I enjoy helping our diverse student community learn about others and develop important skills for success in "the real world." I also enjoy working with the many academic departments and administrative areas to ensure that students have the best possible college experience.
Although the Office of Multicultural Affairs was established just two years ago, I am by no means a stranger to the Stony Brook campus because I have worked at the University for several years. I have held several positions in the Dean of Students Office and the Department of Student Union and Activities, which allowed me to work in the areas of campus activities, student leadership development, multicultural programming, budgeting and human resource management, and facilities management. As a proud alumnus, I earned my Master's degree in Professional Studies (Human Resource Management Concentration) from Stony Brook University and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management from the NYS Department of Education (Harriman School of Management at Stony Brook). I also have a Bachelor’s degree in English from Syracuse University. My career also includes 25 years of combined professional experience in Student Affairs from Syracuse University, Cornell University, and Stony Brook.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you throughout the academic year. Please feel free to stop by my office if you want to get involved or simply have a question.

I am delighted to begin my professional career by working with the Office of Multicultural Affairs! I recently graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Biology, and I am very happy to be back on campus. During the course of my four years as an undergraduate at the University, I worked with several departments including Undergraduate Admissions, Student Orientation and Family Programs, and Academic Advising. Through my involvement with these departments, I discovered my great interest in the field of higher education. I am very excited to be working now with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and having the opportunity to work closely with our diverse student population. It is my goal as Multicultural Affairs Assistant to strengthen the UNITI Cultural Center’s mission as a multicultural center that supports our diverse campus community. I hope to increase the presence of the center on our campus, and to develop the UNITI Cultural Center into a meeting place where students can gather and access resources that promote multicultural awareness, inclusion, and student leadership and development.
Feel free to stop by the UNITI Cultural Center anytime, or contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you and our diverse community!

Hello, my name is Rebecca Marshall and it is my pleasure to serve as the 2009-2010 Reginald C. Wells Graduate Fellow for Multicultural Affairs. I am currently a graduate student enrolled in the School of Social Welfare's Masters in Social Work (MSW) Program, with a concentration in the Student-Community Development (SCD) Specialization. I am an alumna of the University of Kansas where I earned my Bachelor's in Social Work to pursue my passion of empowering others. I have worked in a variety of different capacities within the field of social work including the youth empowerment through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, an HIV/AIDS Outreach Educator to the Native American Tribes in the state of Kansas, and most recently higher education through AmeriCorps VISTA where I served as a Coordinator of Civic Engagement at Meredith College (Raleigh, NC) and as the Coordinator of Service and Volunteerism at SUNY Purchase College.
As your Wells Fellow, it is my goal to support the Office of Multicultural Affairs. I coordinate the Diversity Challenge Grant Program, advise the UNITI Student Organization, assist with the oversight of the UNITI Cultural Center (UCC) facilities, help coordinate cultural programs and campus traditions, facilitate diversity awareness workshops, and assisting with assessment efforts.
