Policies & Procedures
Undergraduate Students: All registered Undergraduate Students pay the "Campus Recreation Facilities" fee which provides access to the Campus Recreation Center, programs and services. However, Students are only members for the semesters that they are enrolled in school. Students may purchase a membership if they wish to utilize the Recreation Center between sessions. This is available to Undergraduate Students during the Winter Session, and during the Summer Sessions.
Graduate Students: Graduate Students are eligible to purchase a membership on an annual or monthly basis. Passes can be purchased in the Campus Recreation Center or by utilizing our Online Portal.
* Bills over $20 are NOT accepted.
Faculty/Staff: eligible to purchase a yearly membership. All memberships will run year to date based on when the membership was purchased at the Campus Recreation Center or by utilizing our Online Portal.
*RF Employees are eligible for insurance reimbursement for membership to the Campus Recreation Center provided submission of proper forms and documentation. Please view Gym Reimbursement Details for an overview of the process. Please bring Fitness Facility Verification forms (©American Specialty Health Inc.) to Durron Newman at the Campus Recreation Center for verification. Faculty/Staff/Student Spouse & Alumni: to purchase a membership for a spouse or partner, please view Spouse/Partner Details and Domestic Partner Details.
*All restrictions apply to Alumni excluding purchase of membership, which is issued with proof of Stony Brook University alumni card.
One-Day Guest Passes: guest passes are available for $10 per person. A CRC member is allowed to bring 7 guests on campus during each academic year. All Guest Passes must be purchased the day prior or 24 hours in advance to use. All guests must be escorted by their host at all times while in the Campus Recreation Center. All guests must have a Photo ID to gain access to the facility. *For free guest pass of Faculty/Staff , please speak with Campus Recreation Center Administration Office.
Locks: Locks are sold in the vending machine in main lobby for $5.
For faculty/staff and graduate students there is no longer a pro-rated membership. Monthly membership options are now available. Refunds will be assessed with a $25.00 processing fee.
Personal Training & Instruction
Personal training and instruction is limited to CRC staff. Instruction for pay or trade by outside entities is strictly prohibited and could jeopardize membership privileges for all parties involved.
Member ID Card
Members must have their current Stony Brook University ID card or their Recreation ID card to enter any Campus Recreation facility in addition to checking out any equipment. Members may be denied entry without a card.
Please store all personal items in a locker. Day lockers are available throughout the facility and in both locker rooms. Any unattended items will be collected and considered lost if they are not stored in a locker.
Lost & Found
We will maintain lost and found collections in the CRC. All items deemed high value items are called in to the University Police Department (UPD) and reported immediately (items include laptops, cell phones, cameras, wallets, etc). Additionally, all items valued at over $20 dollars if not redeemed are turned over to UPD nightly. ID cards will be turned over to the Campus Card office within 1 business day. Residence Hall keys will be turned into the risk management clerk at (631) 632- 6750 to determine the owner. Items, regardless of value, are logged into the lost and found book located at the information desk. Any items unclaimed beyond 30 days will be discarded. Clothing will be donated. LOST / ABANDONED STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD POLICY PROCEDURE. The student is contacted via phone. If the call is unanswered, a voicemail shall be left and a follow-up email will be sent to the individual. The voicemail and follow-up email shall indicate the location of the identification card and that the student has 24 hours to pick up the card before being sent to the Campus Card Office. Main Campus Administration Building, Room 254. In the event exhaustive efforts to contact the individual have failed, the unclaimed identification card will be returned to the Campus Card Office after 24 hours since the initial contact attempt.
Removal from Facility or Program
Recreation Staff reserve the right to eject anyone whose behavior is unruly or illegal in nature. Membership privileges will be revoked without a refund and the individual(s) will be escorted from the facility.
Food & Drink
Food and gum are prohibited in the Campus Recreation Center. Water is the only acceptable beverage in the Campus Recreation Center. Any sport drinks, soda, and non-water beverages are not acceptable. Glass bottles are not allowed in the Campus Recreation Center and all bottles must be resealable.
Bicycles & Other Wheeled Vehicles
Campus Recreation supports the use of alternative transportation; however, wheeled vehicles (e.g., bicycles, skates, skateboards, and scooters) are not permitted in the Campus Recreation Center. Bicycles may be parked in the provided racks near the entrance to the building at the owner's risk. Bicycles and scooters locked to fences, handrails, trees, or signs risk being removed.
We must be extremely diligent about keeping our members and staff safe. All visitors must check in at the front desk. In order for a visitor to use the CRC a Guest Pass must be purchased the day before using the facility.If you become aware of someone trying to visit with one of our members or Campus Recreation staff, please introduce yourself politely,and direct them to the front desk and notify a supervisor. If at anytime, you notice an outsider/non-member of the University who makes you feel uncomfortable or whom you feel could endanger our members, notify a supervisor if a professional staff member is not available.
For your safety and comfort, workout limit of 30 minutes during peak times. Hand weights and dumbbells are not permitted on cardiovascular equipment. Proper exercise attire is required. Shirts required at all times, cut-offs or altered shirts prohibited. Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times. No sandals, clogs, dress shoes or boots permitted. Wipe down the equipment after each use. Personal and/or instructional training other than that scheduled through Campus Recreation is prohibited. Bags of any kind or any loose personal items should be secured in the daily lockers located throughout the building. Wear the safety lanyard when using the treadmills. Report injuries and/or equipment concerns immediately to a staff member.
Equipment Issue Area
For your safety and comfort, SBU ID Card required to check out equipment. Patrons are responsible for all items issued to them. All issued equipment must be returned 15 minutes prior to closing. Issued items may be used in the intended areas only. Payment is required for any lost, stolen or damaged equipment.
For your safety and comfort, please travel in posted direction. Joggers use inner lanes.Walkers use outer lanes. Standing/spectating in any of the track lanes is prohibited. Bags of any kind or personal items should be secured in the daily lockers located throughout the building. Report injuries and/or equipment concerns immediately to a staff member.
For your safety and comfort, hanging on rims, nets or dasher boards is prohibited. Proper exercise attire and non-marking athletic footwear is required. Unsportsmanlike conduct is prohibited. Bags or any personal items should be secured in the daily lockers located throughout the building. Report injuries and/or equipment concerns immediately to a staff member.
For your safety and comfort, wipe off all equipment when you are finished. Fitness equipment should be used only for its intended purpose. Do not remove equipment from activity rooms. Personal hand weights are not permitted. Using a towel during exercises on mats is recommended. Shirts required at all times. Bags or personal items should be secured in the daily lockers located throughout the building or cubbies located in studios.
For your safety and comfort, all equipment must remain in weight room. Re-rack dumbbells, free weights and plates after use. Collars are required on all barbell lifts. Chalk is not allowed. Olympic Platforms are the only areas where weights may be dropped to the floor. Rubber coated bumper plates must be used on platforms. Standing or placing feet on benches or equipment frames is not permitted. Be courteous allow others to use equipment/station while you are between sets. Wipe down the equipment after each use. If you are unsure how to use a machine, seek assistance from a staff member. Proper exercise attire is required at all times: cut-offs or altered shirts, jeans, belts, khakis or clothing that may damage upholstery prohibited. Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times. No sandals, clogs, dress shoes or boots permitted. Bags of any kind or any other personal items should be secured in the daily lockers located throughout the building. Report injuries and/or equipment concerns immediately to a staff member.

For your safety and comfort, provide your own lock, secure your belongings and do not leave personal items in an unsecured locker. Lockers are available for daily use only (no overnight storage is permitted). Locks must be removed 15 minutes prior to closing. Personal locks left overnight will be removed. Hair dying or bleaching is not permitted in the locker room. Photography and videotaping is strictly prohibited.If this room is in need of custodial services, please advise a staff member.
In accordance with NY State Law, items left behind with a value of $20 or more will be brought to the Campus Recreation Center Administration Office. The staff will make significant attempts through phone calls and e-mail messages to contact individuals who left items behind, and make arrangements for pickup. Items over $20 but less than $500 need to be stored in the Campus Recreation Center for a period of 6 months. University Police will take possession of items over $500 and store items in accordance with state law.
Storing Personal Belongings
Storage of belongings for students and/or student staff is strictly prohibited and will result in job action.
