SPORT CLUBS - DIRECTORY
The Department of Campus Recreation offers a comprehensive Sport Club program ranging from Archery to Wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts.
Sport Clubs fill the void between intramural sports activities and intercollegiate athletics, giving members of the university community and opportunity to participate in highly competitive sport activities, practice and learn new skills, and enjoy recreational and social benefits motivated by a common interest. A sport club may be oriented toward competition, instructional, or recreational purposes.
In addition to the opportunities that Sport Clubs provide, the success of the program depends heavily upon the student leaders of each individual club. These student leaders must have the initiative and drive to handle administrative decisions regarding their club, as well as motivate club members to take part in various activities.
Who can join?
Sport Clubs are organized by students; however membership is open to students and faculty/staff members of the University. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to join or coach a club as long as students comprise the majority of the club's membership. Stony Brook University faculty and staff may serve as advisors to the clubs as well.
Do I have to tryout?
Each sport club is open to all participants, regardless of skill, ability or experience. Sport Clubs are not allowed to hold tryouts or "cut players" from the club. Should this occur, the Department of Campus Recreation wants to know!
Please e-mail email@example.com or call 631-632-7120 to let us know.
How do I contact a club?
Current contact information for each club is listed on the website under each club's name. Just e-mail the club representative listed. If the club representative does not have a listed email address, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where do sport clubs meet?
With such a variety of sports, practices are held in several different locations.
How much does it cost?
The Executive Board for each club will determine whether membership dues will be assessed; and if so, how much.
How are the new sport clubs formed?
To start a new club or reactivate an inactive club, the Manager of Sport Clubs can assist you! Just set up a time to learn about the process by calling 631-632-7120.
