Participation & Check-in Policy
The growth of the Group Fitness Program necessitates the need to limit the number of participants in fitness classes for member safety and enjoyment. Please note the class size limit is 23 participants, unless otherwise noted in the class schedule, Fitness Class Schedule.
You must use your SBU ID and/or your Campus Recreation issued ID card to check in at the SAC Aerobics Studio or SAC Spinning Studio for fitness classes in the Student Activities Center.
NO ID, NO ENTRY TO CLASS.
All classes are on a first come, first serve basis. You may check in up to 30 minutes prior to the class start. It is advised you arrive early!
Class Participation Minimum:
* There is a minimum number of participants required in order to hold a Group Fitness Class. Beginning in the Spring 2011 until further notice. The minimum class attendance must be three (3) participants or greater. If there are less than three (3) participants that show up to a class, the instructor must cancel the class. Those participants will have the option of utilizing the space under supervision of the fitness attendant, if they still desire to workout. Classes in which there is consistently low participation (i.e. less that three (3) participants) will be removed from the Group Fitness Schedule.
These changes have been made due to the review of the Group Fitness Class statistics and the costs associated with staff payroll in light of strained operating budgets.
We realize that at times this policy creates an inconvenience to some students and faculty/staff members. That is why we made the decision to open up access to the space to those affected. While a personal workout may not be exactly the same experience - there is the opportunity to exercise, possibly try something new and meet others.
We anticipate that until the current financial situation improves, we will be forced to continue to look for ways to streamline expenses, while still being able to offer quality services.
Registered undergraduate students can participate for free. Faculty, staff and graduate students require a group fitness punch card to participate, which are purchased in the Wellness Office, SAC Room 225. For more information please call the Wellness Office at 632-6850.
