INTRAMURAL PROGRAM GOALS

Program Diversity

The 17,000 students attending the University have a wide range of recreational interests that are served by programs which, as a whole, give comparable attention to competitive intramural sports and special events. A diverse, safe program encourages maximum involvement.

Safety

While it is recognized that there is an element of risk involved in athletic competition and physical activity, the Department strives to provide for the safety of the participants and staff. This goal is addressed by consideration of safety in the formulation of policy selection of program activities and the management of facilities used by the Department.

Information

The Program aims to be a resource center for recreational sports information. The primary objectives center on informing the University Community of the activities and opportunities sponsored by the Department. Secondary objectives relate to recreational opportunities outside the Department and the University.

Facility Management and Growth

Given the aim of maximum involvement, the Program attends to the allocation of available facilities for optimal use. Efforts are made to maintain current facilities and to develop new facilities to accommodate future use.

Staff Development

The Department depends on a large number of employees, both professionals and students, to achieve its goals. Along with those other goals is the need to develop a productive work force of individuals who can feel a sense of accomplishment and contribution to the Department and who have the opportunity for personal growth and learning.
