Undergraduate Students: All registered Undergraduate students pay the Campus Recreation Facilities fee which provides access to the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center, programs, and services. Students are only members for the semesters that they are enrolled in school. Undergraduate students may purchase a membership if they wish to continue to utilize the Recreation Center between sessions when not enrolled, during the Winter and Summer sessions.
Graduate Students: Graduate Students are eligible to purchase a membership on an annual or monthly basis. Memberships can be purchased in the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center or by utilizing our Online Portal. Purchases can be made online through our portal (must have active Net ID) using a credit card or in-person with cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Stony Brook University Department of Campus Recreation. Graduate students must be active and currently enrolled in classes to purchase a membership, except during Winter and Summer breaks.
Faculty/Staff: Faculty/Staff are eligible to purchase an annual or monthly membership. All memberships will run year to date based on when the membership was purchased at the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center or by utilizing our Online Portal. Purchases can be made online through our portal (must have active Net ID) using a credit card or in-person with cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Stony Brook University Department of Campus Recreation.
*RF Employees are eligible for insurance reimbursement for membership to the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center provided submission of proper forms and documentation. Please view Gym Reimbursement Details for an overview of the process. Please bring Fitness Facility Verification forms (©American Specialty Health Inc.) to Durron Newman at the Recreation Center for verification. Partner/Spouse & Alumni: Current students and faculty/staff are eligible to purchase a membership for a spouse
or partner, please view Spouse/Partner Details and Domestic Partner Details for more information. Alumni are also eligible to purchase a membership, with proof
of their Stony Brook University Alumni Card. Please contact the Alumni Office for more information. Partner/Spouse/Alumni may not participate in group fitness classes, club sports, or intramural activities with their
Partner/Spouse & Alumni Members are ineligible to purchase memberships online through our portal. They must be purchased in-person and paid by either cash or check. Checks can be made payable to Stony Brook University Department of Campus Recreation.
Guest Passes: Guest passes are available for $10 per person. Guest passes are good for one use to the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center. All guests must be escorted by their member host at all times while in the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center. All guests must have a Photo ID to gain access to the facility and must be 18 or older. Alumni and Partner/Spouse members are not eligible to purchase guest passes.
Day passes are also available for purchase to any Stony Brook University ID holding non-member. Individuals must present their University ID. Day passes can be purchased in the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center (in-person with cash or check) or by utilizing our Online Portal (must have active Net ID) using a credit card. Checks should be made payable to Stony Brook University Department of Campus Recreation.
Locks: Locks are sold in the vending machine in main lobby for $5. This must be paid in cash with $1s or $5s only and exact change; no change will be given out.
Graduate Student, Undergraduate, Faculty/Staff, Partner/Spouse, and Alumni memberships are not prorated at purchase date. Refund requests must be submitted to the Director, Jay Souza, for approval. Refunds will be assessed with a $25.00 processing fee.
Participants enrolled in a program or class may transfer or withdraw until 7 days prior to the program start date. Transfers or refunds within 7 days, but before, the program's start date will only be issued if a waiting list is active for the program and must be authorized by the Program Coordinator. Once the program has begun only a pro-rated credit will be issued. Programs, camps or classes may be cancelled if minimum registration numbers are not obtained prior to the start date. In this case a full refund will be issued. If a class is cancelled by Stony Brook University, or due to weather it will be rescheduled at the next available time.
Members must have their current Stony Brook University ID card or their Campus Recreation-issued ID card to enter any Campus Recreation facility or to check out any equipment. Members may be denied entry without a card.
