Description: Stony Brook Women's Rugby Football Club - a.k.a. the Black Widows - has existed at Stony Brook for about 20 years. Our dedicated members take joy in participating in a sport that is an incredibly exciting life experience. Once joining this club, members enjoy the benefits of getting their bodies into shape and fostering life long friendships.
Rugby is as social as it physical. The team travels to many different locations throughout the year, meeting, playing against and socializing with other rugby teams. The club goes beyond being a Sports Club to being a Sisterhood in which its members participate in a variety of social activities that create and sustain the bonds of friendship. Prior to joining the Black Widows, few of its members had ever heard of rugby, much less have played it. Prior experience is therefore not a requirement. In addition to that fact, rugby is a type of sport that calls for all shapes and sizes. All fitness levels are welcome as well.
Practice days and times: We practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 and on Fridays from 3-6:30 p.m. on the pitch behind the South P lot. Our general body meetings are on Mondays at 8:30 in SAC room 308.
