Q. Where is the Campus Recreation Center going to be built?
A. The Campus Recreation Center will be located between the Student Union & the Sports Complex.
Q. What is the square footage of the Campus Recreation Center and what are some of the highlights?
A. The Campus Recreation Center will be a three floor facility with approximately 85,000 square feet of programming space. Some of the features include a three-court gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, and badminton; three group fitness studios; 17,000 square feet of weights and fitness; Campus Recreation administrative offices; 1/10th-mile track, Multi-Activity Court for basketball, soccer, roller hockey, volleyball, and badminton; locker rooms, equipment rental area, two lounges, and wireless internet access.
Q. When will the Campus Recreation Center be completed?
A. The actual groundbreaking of the Campus Recreation center began on Monday, January 4, 2010. There is no exact date of when construction of the facility will be completed but there is a timetable of about two years from when construction started.
Q. Who will be allowed to use the Campus Recreation Center?
A. The Campus Recreation Center will be available to Stony Brook students, faculty and staff.
Q. What is the Campus Recreation Center Advisory Board?
A. The Campus Recreation Center Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Associate Vice President & Dean of Students, the Associate Dean & Director of Student Life, and the Associate Director of Campus Recreation. The CRC Advisory Board and its subcommittees provide feedback and advice on matters concerning the mission and policies of the Campus Recreation Center.
Q. Who are the members of the Campus Recreation Center Advisory Board?
A. The CRC Advisory Board serves as a liaison between the various members of the campus community and the Division of Student Life & the Department of Campus Recreation. There is representation on this board from all of the following areas:
- Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students
- Associate Dean & Director of Student Life
- Associate Director of Campus Recreation
- Student Representative from Campus Recreation – Intramurals
- Student Representative from Campus Recreation – Wellness
- Student Representative from Sports Club Advisory Board
- Student Representative from Undergraduate Student Government
- Student Representative from Graduate Student Organization
- Student Representative from Campus Residences – RHA
- Student Representative from Commuter Student Association
- Student Representative from Student Athletic Advisory Board

Q. What will happen to the Wellness Center in the Student Activities Center?
A. The Wellness Center will close once the Campus Recreation Center opens. The future of that particular space has not been determined however it is the intention to use that location as programming space for student groups.
Q. What will the hours be for the new Campus Recreation Center?
A. Anticipated hours of the new Campus Recreation Center are 6:00 a.m. – midnight.
Q. How will membership packages work for faculty & staff who want to use the Campus Recreation Center?
A. Stony Brook University faculty, staff and affiliates will be able to purchase a membership to the new Campus Recreation Center. There is no current price structure in place and those fees will be determined at a later time. One thing that is certain is that by having a membership to the Campus Recreation Center, faculty & staff will not only be able to take advantage of all the fitness equipment and open recreation times but also be able to participate in group fitness classes as part of their membership.
Q. What will the guest policy be for the new Campus Recreation Center?
A. The guest policy is one of the many topics that are presently being discussed amongst the Campus Recreation Center Advisory Committee.
