The Living Learning Centers at Stony Brook University provide students with the unique opportunity to integrate their academic experiences with their living environment. Students may live with other residents who share similar academic interests, and interact with faculty on a more personal level outside of the traditional classroom setting.
The goals of the programs are achieved by providing credit and non-credit learning experiences within a residence hall. Each center is staffed with a Residence Hall Director and a Faculty Director. These individuals are valuable resources who are available to help residents by answering questions, offering advice, and planning exciting programs. The Living Learning Centers include:
- Media Arts
- Interdisciplinary Arts
- Environmental Studies
- International Studies
- Human Gender and Sexual Development
- Health and Wellness
- Community Service
- Leadership Development
- Science and Engineering
The Undergraduate Colleges are part of a thematic program to enhance the first-year experience by creating small communities, fostering interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to learning, and developing a more effective and rewarding introduction to the University. Each of these colleges is open to students in all majors. The Undergraduate Colleges are:
- College of Information and Technology Studies
- College of Global Studies
- College of Arts, Culture, and Humanities
- College of Science and Society
- College of Leadership and Service
- College of Human Development
Residential Tutoring Center (RTC)

Residential Tutoring Centers offer review sessions for these courses before
scheduled exams.
