 Q: How do I report a Broken Light on Campus in a Residence Hall?

A: If the light is inside a residence hall building, and there are other working lights without any exposed wires or sparks, enter a work request at the Campus Residences Work Request page at http://www.stonybrook.edu/fixit or download the free “SBU 311” App on your mobile phone.

If there are no other working lights in the room, or the fixture is hanging or sparking, contact the EMERGENCY DESK at 2-9585 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. and on weekends, contact your RA on duty.

 

The lock to my suite or room does not work properly. My key won’t turn. What do I do?

 

Contact the Emergency Desk at 2-9585 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 Q: How do I report a Broken Light on Campus in an Academic Building?

A: Call 2-6400 if the light is on a pole or in an academic building.  Please make sure to note the number listed on the light.

 

 Q: Who do I call if my internet doesn't work? 

A: For all Internet related problems, please contact Client Support at 63(2)-9800.

 

 Q: What if my telephone or cable stops working?

A: If you have access to a telephone, please contact your Quad Office.

 

After 5PM, leave a voicemail on the quad office phonemail and they will follow up on the issue the next business day.


If you do not have phone access, contact a resident assistant within the building and s/he will deal with the issue accordingly.  Either way, keep him/her aware of the problem or situation as it arises.

 

 Q: Why should I report what I think are very small or minor maintenance problems? What's the big deal?

A: Small problems such a dripping faucet, a small leak, or a hole in a wall has the potential to escalate in severity if not addressed in a timely fashion.  Such concerns can end up costing much more to repair and cause greater inconvenience to you.  Please enter a work request on the Campus Residences Work Order Request Page at http://www.stonybrook.edu/fixit or download the free “SBU 311” App on your mobile phone to report any concerns.  Make sure to follow up with your resident assistant after so doing.

 

 Q: What do I do if there is an emergency problem with my room?

A: Please contact the Emergency Desk at 2-9585 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

Between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and on weekends, contact your RA on duty.

 

 Q: What should I do if my room has no heat?

A: Check to make sure the windows are closed, and that all furniture and other items are at least 6 inches away from the baseboard heating area and are not obstructing the heating vents. If this does not work, please contact the Emergency Desk at 2-9585 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. 

Between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and on weekends, contact your RA on duty.

 

 Q: My bathroom sink gets clogged a lot, or drains really slowly. What can I do?

A: Make sure that no debris such as food or hair is allowed to accumulate in the sink.  Keep it as clean as possible from all potential obstructions.  If the blockage is not visible, or the water does not drain properly, visit the Campus Residences Work Order Request Page at http://www.stonybrook.edu/fixit or download the free “SBU 311” App on your mobile phone. If the sink is overflowing, please contact the EMERGENCY DESK at 2-9585 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

If it is an emergency please contact your the EMERGENCY DESK at 2-9585 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.   Between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and on weekends, contact your RA on duty.
