ETHERNET / PHONE / CABLE TV

Wireless

Every residence hall has a wireless network available for student use.  The wireless network is available from every student room.  Each student has to register their device(s) to access either the wireless or wired networks.  More information regarding the wired network is below under the Ethernet section.

Ethernet

Required Ethernet Cables:
Each room in Roosevelt and Roth Quads is equipped with one RJ11 Ethernet jack. An RJ11 to RJ45 Ethernet cable is required to go online from these jacks.

Each room in H-Quad, Mendelsohn, Kelly, and Tabler Quads, as well as West, Chapin and Schomburg Apartments is equipped with one RJ45 Ethernet jack with two ports. An RJ45 Ethernet cable is required to go online from these jacks.

Cables may be purchased at the Seawolves Marketplace, located in the Student Activities Center. If two or more residents in one room wish to connect to the Internet via the ethernet port, the residents will need to purchase a hub or switch.

How to Register:
The registration page is located at https://register.resnet.stonybrook.edu. In order to register your computer, you must access this page on the computer you wish to register, while plugged into the jack in your dormitory. For more information, visit http://resnet.stonybrook.edu/ or call Client Support at 2-9800.

Phones

Your Phone Number:
Your phone number appears on your school provided phone. Your phone number will be in the 6-XXXX format. To call your phone from an Off-Campus phone, Dial 631-216-XXXX. You and your roommate(s) share a phone and phone number.

If you live in West Apartments:
Ask your RA for your new phone number. Residents of the West Apartments are not provided with campus phones. Your phone number will still be in the 6-XXXX format. To call your phone from an Off-Campus phone, dial 631-216-XXXX. Each room is equipped with two separate phone jacks. You will need to provide your own phone. You can still access your campus voicemail from a non-ROLM phone.

To Make a Call:
To call an on-campus resident: Dial 6, then their 4-digit extension.
To call an on-campus office: Dial 2, then the 4-digit extension.
To call a local off-campus phone number: Dial 9, then dial the 7-digit phone number (All numbers in the 631 area code are local numbers)
If you wish to call a long distance phone number, you must purchase a prepaid calling card (Dial 9, then the 1-800 number on the card, following the automated instructions).
