Stony Brook University Citizen's Police Academy

Fall 2016

The Stony Brook University Citizen's Police Academy is an eight week course designed for members of the campus community to gain insight into the daily functions and responsibilities of our law enforcement personnel. Eligible candidates will be introduced to basic law enforcement concepts such as, police ethics, community policing, police and media relations, emergency management operations and investigations. Candidates will also participate in interactive scenarios involving, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation training, domestic incidents, deadly physical force, FATS (Firearms Training Stimulator), and active shooter incidents. The goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to give candidates a broad overview of law enforcement and to strengthen the bond between the police department and the community. 

 

Classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Starting date to be determined.

Transportation to University Police Headquarters provided if needed. Parking will be available.
