Emergency Dispatch

All maintenance emergencies in residential buildings should be reported to Residential Operations Emergency Dispatch at (631) 632-9585.

This number can be called at any time to report an emergency maintenance issue, but should not be used for emergency safety issues (e.g. smoke, fire, gas leaks, chemical spills, medical emergencies, etc.) which should instead be reported to University Police by dialing 911 with a campus phone or (631) 632-3333 using either a cellphone of non-campus phone.

Please also note that this number is only for residential buildings. For maintenance issues in academic buildings, please call (631) 632-6400.

When you dial (631) 632-9585, it will connect with the Residential Operations dispatch desk Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and will connect to the Residential Safety Program (RSP) dispatch desk at all other times. This number should not be called for minor issues, but all serious issues should be reported to this number, including, but not limited to, problems such as:

  • Water leaks
  • No electricity
  • No lighting
  • Heating or cooling problems
  • Bugs, rodents, or other animals inside of a building (or causing issues outside of a building)
  • No hot water
  • Clogged or broken shower, sink, or toilet
  • Broken/damaged lock, key, or door

When dispatch is called, a dispatcher will ask for the details about the problem which will allow our staff to locate the issue and handle it appropriately. The dispatcher will also ask for the name, phone number, and email address of the caller so that the caller can be contacted if necessary. After the phone call is ended, dispatch will inform either the area supervisor or another staff member, who will make sure that the issue is correctly prioritized. Most issues reported to dispatch are resolved the same day, but it may take longer if there are complications, or at times when there is a high volume of issues.

This email is actively checked Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, so urgent issues should not be reported to this address outside of these hours. You can also request laundry refunds either through the emergency dispatch number or by emailing us.
