Residential Safety Program: About Us

The Mission of the Residential Safety Program is to ensure the safety of our community through education, providing a walk service to Stony Brook students, and patrolling campus around the clock.

The Residential Safety Program (RSP), under the Division of Campus Residence was founded in 1975. It is a professionally run student-based organization under the direction of James Carr, the Program Coordinator of RSP. RSP's staff consists of over 300 dedicated individuals who are studying in the undergraduate, graduate, or doctorate programs of Stony Brook University. This student based staff is composed of dedicated individuals who have made it their priority to provide safety in our community. RSP offers a walk escort service throughout all of campus to all students and staff. To further our mission, RSP maintains a presence throughout Stony Brook University with field units constantly patrolling our campus. In addition, desk monitors are positioned at the main entrance of each residential hall during the night for the  purpose of checking-in students and their guests. RSP is designed to serve the ongoing need in our community for safety and security on campus. The fulfillment of this need is one that requires teamwork and dedication.

Our coverage area includes all residential facilities throughout Stony Brook University main campus and Southampton campus.
