Christine Noonan
      Director of Student      Engagement & Activities


Christine joined Stony Brook in 2009 as a Residence Hall Director until she moved to Student Activities in Fall of 2011. Christine served as the Coordinator of Weekend Life and Major Programs from 2011-2016. In that position, she oversaw and supervised the Weekend Life Council. In 2017, Christine began in her new role as Director. In her position she oversees the overall operations of the department. Some additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor to the Undergraduate Student Government's Student Activities Board, and Alternative Spring Break Outreach. Christine also assists with the planning and implementation of Opening and Homecoming Activities. She received her BS in Psychology from SUNY Oneonta and her MA in Higher Education & Student Affairs from the University of Connecticut. Her favorite Stony Brook tradition is the Seawolves Showcase!

Melissa S

Melissa Scuccimarri
Associate Director for Student Involvement & Leadership


Melissa joined Stony Brook University in 2006 as a Residence Hall Director for Hendrix College. In 2011 she left the University, and returned in 2015 as the Associate Director for Student Involvement and Leadership. In her position, Melissa oversees all aspects of the almost 400 on campus clubs and organizations and she supervises the Office of Student Involvement and Organizations and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Melissa received her BS in Psychology from St. Thomas Aquinas College and her MS in Education/School Counseling from Hofstra University. Her favorite Stony Brook tradition is Red Fridays!

Isobel B

Isobel Breheny-Schafer
Assistant Director of Student Media


Isobel started working at Stony Brook in 2001 as a student and Graduate Assistant for the Department of Student Activities and the Department of Recycling and Resource Management before joining Stony Brook as Professional staff in 2006. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Student Media and General Manager of WUSB 90.1fm radio station. In this position she advises the Student Media Council and the student media organizations on campus. She also supervises a volunteer radio station staff and a student media support office and assists with departmental committees. She teaches a first year seminar 101 class for Science and Society Undergraduate College. Isobel is a Stony Brook Alumni with a BS in Business Management and minor in Media Arts, a Masters in Liberal Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Information Systems Management. She is currently in the process of completely her MBA. Some of her favorite Stony Brook traditions are Earthstock, the Black History Month Spoken Word Open Mic Night, WUSB Radio's Salsathon and the SBU-TV Student Film Festival!




Samantha Thompson
Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life


Samantha rejoined the Office of Student Engagement & Activities in 2017 as the Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life. She previously served Stony Brook University as a Graduate Assistant for both Fraternity & Sorority Life and Commuter Student Services from 2013-2014. She is a Seawolf herself, having earned her Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Stony Brook University. She received her BA in Political Science & Public Policy from Syracuse University, where she was actively involved in the fraternity & sorority community. In her position, Samantha oversees the Fraternity & Sorority Life system, including 30+ organizations and 7 governing councils. Her favorite Stony Brook tradition is the Earthstock Duck Race!

Jan C

Janice Costanzo
Coordinator of Creative Arts


Jan began her SBU career in 1994 as a Student Assistant for the Craft Center within the Department of Student Activities. After graduating with a BA in Studio Art she served as the center's Artist in Residence for 3 years. Jan joined the SBU professional staff as the Craft Center Coordinator in 2001. She also managed the Student Activities Center Art Gallery for three years.  The Office of Creative Arts continues the tradition of supporting and promoting the arts on campus through a variety of creative programming and experiential learning. Now located in the Student Activities Center the Office of Creative Arts assists with planning the SSK Student Art Festival, the SBU Art Crawl tours, Craft Nights, Paint Nights, Self-Care Spa Nights, and a host of other programs. Jan's favorite campus tradition is the SSK Student Arts Festival.
