Posting Signs

  1. Bulletin boards are intended for Stony Brook University Community use only.
  2. All posters, flyers, and table tents must be stamped "Approved for Posting." The flyers and table tents can be approved in the Stony Brook Union room 266 or Student Activities Center room 218.
  3. Only recognized organizations can post flyers on bulletin boards.
  4. Flyers are NOT to be attached in any way to wall surfaces, glass surfaces, doors, floors, traffic signs, light poles, sidewalks or trees.
  5. Use of chalk to write on any surface other than a black board (street, side of building, etc.) is not permitted and is considered vandalism.
  6. Table tents are permitted in dining room areas.  Table tents will be limited to one per table, and require approval.
  7. Credit card advertisements will not be approved.
  8. No advertisements for solicitation of alcohol or any other substance will be approved.
  9. Flyer size is not to exceed 11x17 inches.
  10. Date, time, and location must be approved prior to approval.
  11. Only one poster per bulletin board is allowed.
  12. Campus organizations are responsible for removal and disposal of material at the conclusion of their event.
  13. Information printed in any language other than English must include English translation.

Notices may NOT be posted on: windows, doors, wood, brick, or painted surfaces. Any posters posted without a stamp or in an undesignated area will be discarded. Posting Policy infractions can result in loss of posting privileges for the individual, the organization, or both.  Posters that violate any guidelines will be removed at the organizations’ expense. Please educate our club members about these guidelines.

Fundraising Policy

Only fundraising or solicitation of funds that results in benefit to the University is permitted, unless specifically authorized by the President or designee. Such events must be consistent with the missions, goals and mandates of the University. All fundraising activities, except student fund raising events with projected revenues of less than $500, must be reported to and coordinated through the Office of the Vice President of University Affairs. Business or other commercial solicitation not directly related to University operations is permitted on campus only if the vendor, organization, group or individual has obtained a permit from the Faculty Student Association. Student tables for fundraising are free.

Alcohol Policy
Permission to serve and consume alcohol must be granted through the campus alcohol policy. Submit requests in writing to the Director of Facility Operations well in advance. Approval must accompany all events serving alcohol. Alcohol Permit is required. Alcohol permits are granted by the New York State Liquor Authority. Please call University Police or the Director of Facility Operations if you notice alcoholic beverages served without proper approval.
