CERAMICS | ARTS & CRAFTS | LEISURE
The Ceramics Program offers weekly classes which includes instruction time and CERAMIC MEMBERSHIP. For the experienced Craft Center member who feels comfortable working on his/her own, a standard CERAMIC MEMBERSHIP is available.
Each studio member receives one page of glaze stamps with a class/membership which includes enough stamps to glaze fire numerous pieces. Extra glaze stamps are available for purchase (only good for current semester).
All members must purchase their own clay and tools for class. All clay must be purchased through the Craft Center studio, no outside clay can be used. Outside glazes must first be approved by the Arts in Residence. This studio is not for production pottery.
Materials for purchase: Clay - $20 for 25 lbs.; Tool kit - $15/new, $8/used when available; Glaze Stamps - $25 per sheet
CERAMIC MEMBERSHIP
Membership grants access to the well-equipped ceramic studio facilities during generous posted hours (posted in the studio and our web site). Students will work on their own time and without instruction. Includes use of glazes and some firings. Available to past members. Ceramic Studio 049.
POTTERY ON THE WHEEL
Beginners through Intermediate levels receive a good foundation in the methods of throwing on the potter’s wheel while making a variety of forms. Glaze and surface designs will be demonstrated and students can expect to produce some finished pieces. Includes instruction, CERAMIC MEMBERSHIP, glazes and some firings. Ceramic Studio 049.

POTTERY ON THE WHEEL and HANDBUILDING COMBO
Learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing and handbuilding for creating bowls, cups, vases, sculpture and anything imaginable. Glaze and surface designs will be demonstrated and no prior clay experience needed. Instruction, CERAMIC MEMBERSHIP, glazes and some firings included.

HANDBUILDING IN CLAY
In this beginner class explore alternatives to wheel throwing. Create a project the very first class! Class will cover clay construction techniques using pinch pots, coils, slab and shaping hollow forms. Experiment with surface decoration, textures, oxide stain and glazes. Past projects have included cluster pots, vessels, birdhouses and more. Includes instruction, CERAMIC MEMBERSHIP, glazes and some firings. Ceramic Studio 049.

DRAPED FORMS IN HANDBUILDING
This intensive workshop will focus on the draped form. Students will use cheese cloth dipped in colored slips then draped over an armature or in a mold. Add interest by embellishing with found objects and polymer clay (which we will make and bake in class). Students are encouraged to prepare forms from cardboard and extruded, slab or wheel thrown clay prior to start of class. Open to current members. Prior ceramic experience required. GLAZE WORKSHOP
Learn a variety of creative techniques and good glaze combinations to get the best results from
our glazes, underglazes and oxides. Bring four bisque-fired pieces to class. All other supplies
are included. Open to those enrolled in a class or membership. Ceramic Studio 049.

BEGINNING PAINTING
This class will emphasize acrylic as the primary medium but will encourage experimentation with mixed media. Fundamental techniques such as color theory, plane, value, texture, and depth will be examined and classroom instruction will focus on painting directly from observation. DRAWING FOR THOSE WHO THINK THEY CAN’T, BUT WOULD LIKE TO
If you can hold a pencil you can learn to draw. If you would like to make your drawings look more realistic then you must learn to quiet the dominant left side of the brain and let the creative right side take charge. In this introductory class we will work on getting to the right side and learn what the devious left is trying to tell us. Bring an HB pencil, vinyl eraser and a 9"X12" size sketch pad to class. “Creativity is more important than knowledge” – Albert Einstein.

BEADED JEWELRY
Beginners and returnees welcome! Create your own unique beaded accessories. Learn about the different stringing materials, tools and findings for glass beading. Learn how professionals crimp and attach clasps for a pleasing aesthetic. Students will create a bracelet or ankle bracelet and 2 pair of earrings. A Materials fee of $8 due instructor at class. CRYSTAL WEAVE BRACELET
Bead weaving involves the use of beads and string that hold each other in place to create wonderful and interesting patterns. In this introductory class students will create a beautiful bracelet by weaving together Japanese seed beads and Swarovski Crystals using needle and thread. IMPROV COMEDY WORKSHOP
This workshop is an introduction to Improv Comedy. Students will begin by learning basic skills; focus, listening, reacting, teamwork, acceptance, scene work and trust. Each week we'll play different improv games as seen on the TV show "Whose Line is it Anyway?" This class is an excellent tool to build confidence, overcome stage fright, public speaking, improve acting skills, meet new people or entertain your friends. Bring to class your imagination! DEFENSIVE DRIVING
The Empire Safety Council Accident Prevention Workshop which emphasizes traffic safety awareness is proven to reduce both accidents and traffic citations. Your attitudes and behaviors affect the way you drive. Learn to be a defensive driver and save 10% on your auto insurance (liability and collision) and reduce up to four points on your driving record. This is a six hour course. Instructor: K. O’Brien.
