Description:
La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated was established in the Latino tradition and spirit of pride, dignity, and equality. Founded and chartered at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York in 1982, La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity is the first national fraternal organization ever created to address the needs of the Latino Community. The Fraternity is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all Latinos while also dedicating itself to exploring the vast richness of both Latino heritage and traditions.
On April 20, 1995, the "Untouchable" Upsilon Chapter was officially recognized at Stony Brook University. The Lambda Men at Stony Brook have continuously served in various leadership positions throughout the campus community. They strive to increase the representation of Latino faculty members and students within higher education and also place a strong emphasis on programs that aid in the selection, guidance, and completion of each student's degree program. It is understood that when working towards a common goal the strength of many is more effective then the strength of a few, and, as a result, they focus strongly on serving their community in ways that range from simple volunteer work to extensive fundraising.
La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity functions socially by providing an atmosphere in which each hermano can be himself while also relating to others that share similar backgrounds and experiences. In creating a feeling of familia, every hermano has a place that they can truly call home; a place where he will always be respected and supported. La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity redefines the concept of brotherhood and strives to develop qualities in its members that will help them to grow as mature, intelligent, socially active, and culturally conscious individuals.
