Born
in Concepción, Chile, in the year 1980, Joaquín Cociña
studied Licenciatura en Artes Visuales (BA equivalent) at Universidad
Católica de Chile. Once graduated, he was invited to take part in a special exhibition for the competing artists in the art contest organized by Universidad de Valparaíso. He was awarded a scholarship by the Fondo Nacional para el Desarrollo de las Artes (National Fund for the Development of the Arts) to create a videoart called "Mal Acto" ("Bad Act"). This film was presented at "No Representar Nada" ("Not Representing Anything"), an show in which he participated along with Daniel Reyes, at the Centro Cultural de España, Santiago (2003). During 2004, he was part of a show with fellow artist Paula Dittborn at Salas de Arte Gremio (Gremio Art Gallery), in Valparaíso. This exhibition was intitled "El chico es culpable" ("The Boy is Guilty"). And during 2005, he was part of a show with fellow artist Paula Dittborn at Centro Cultural Matucana 100. This exhibition was intitled "Infeliz a su Manera" ("Unhappy in His Own Way"). In Centro de Extención of Universidad Católica he was part of a coelctive show intitled "El Retrato" ("The Portrait"). Apart from his artistic work, he is currently the editor of the visual arts critique website www.arteycritica.cl, where he also works writing reviews of his own. He is also working with Francisca Montes and Mara Santibañez on another exhibition, this one to be presented during the second semester of 2006 at Galería Animal, intitled "Campo Ciego". |
