The Victims Information Bureau (VIBS 360-3636) http://www.vibs.org) can advise the student about options available and can provide an advocate who can provide support for a student at the hospital and provide follow-up support afterward.

For students who are not experiencing an emergency but who want to speak to with someone after hours or on weekends, you can let them know that there is a 24 hour hotline available, Response Hotline at (631) 751-7500.
It is important for the members of the University community to understand that counseling is confidential in nature and that information regarding counseling sessions cannot be released without a student's written permission. The areas of confidentiality include whether the student has or has not come to the Center and the content of sessions. These rules hold for all cases, except in emergency situations where there is a clear threat to life. If an administrator faculty or staff member is interested in following up a Referral to the University Counseling Center, it is best to speak directly with the student, who is not legally obligated by the same promise of confidentiality as professional counselors.
