OUR MISSION
Our goal is to provide excellent service to veterans and dependents of veterans. We strive to high quality, prompt and seamless service to our veteran community. Our department's employees continue to offer their dedication and commitment to help our nation's veterans receive the services they have earned through their selfless service.
The office of Veterans Affairs provides services such as:
- Guidance to veterans, veteran's dependents and active duty service members in reference to eligibility requirements.
- Forwarding of forms and supporting documentation to appropriate agencies.
- Assist students with the completion of forms.
- Assistance with Veteran's Request for Deferments of tuition and fees.
- Liaison between the University and the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure student eligibility, enrollment, etc.
- Coordination of a VA Work-study Program.
Of the 25 million veterans currently alive, nearly three of every four have served during a war or an official period of hostility. About a quarter of the nation's population — approximately 70 million people — are potentially eligible for VA benefits and services because they are veterans, or dependants of veterans. We are here to make the process of receiving these benefits as easy as possible for all our eligible Stony Brook students.
